The six-storey-high, 89m long acoustic shed is being built at the Legacy Way tunnel worksite.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the shed would house the tunnel boring machines and shield motorists and residents from noise and dust.

“I have a plan to deal with Brisbane’s traffic congestion and we’re getting on with the job of upgrading our most congested suburban roads and building vital new transport infrastructure,” he said.

Cr Quirk said the acoustic shed made of Colorbond steel and measuring 89m long, 77m wide and 29m high would be a temporary feature beside the Western Freeway.

It will be taken down late next year when the tunnel is completed.

“The acoustic shed is made with more than 1000 tonnes of structural steel, and in terms of floor space, is nearly 500 times bigger than your average backyard tool shed, so it’s no small feat to construct,” he said.

The tunnel boring machines (or TBMs) would operate 24 hours.

When completed the acoustic shed will be fitted with a series of travelling cranes, which will be used to assemble the two TBMs.

Legacy Way is the council’s 4.6km road tunnel from the Western Freeway at Toowong to the Inner City Bypass (ICB) at Kelvin Grove. Once open, Legacy Way will almost halve peak-hour travel times between the Centenary Bridge and the ICB.

Cr Quirk again acknowledged the Federal Labor Government’s support for the project through $500 million in funding.

Toowong Councillor Peter Matic said the location of the Legacy Way Tunnel Control Centre, which will be next to the existing Clem7 Tunnel Control Centre at Bowen Hills, would have less impact for residents.

The Disaster Income Recovery Subsidy Flooding and Severe Weather Payment: Financial assistance for employees, small business persons and farmers who have experienced a loss of income as a direct result of the flooding, for example, if your income is derived from the area affected by the disaster. If you are eligible you will receive:
- $469.70 per fortnight for a single adult
-  $424.00 per fortnight per adult who is a member of a couple
- $508.20 per fortnight for a single adult with a dependent child
- $388.70 per fortnight for a person who is under 21 years of age.

Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Grants available are:
-  Emergency Assistance grants – a grant of $170 per person, up to a maximum of $780 for a family of five or more is available. This grant is available to people experiencing hardship due to the disaster who require assistance to meet their basic needs such as food, clothing, accommodation and medical supplies.
-  Essential Household Contents grants – assistance of up to $1,660 for individuals and $4,980 for families.
-  Repairs to Dwelling grants – assistance of up to $10,250 for individuals and $13,800 for families can be provided.

Business Assistance: Grants are available to small businesses that have been affected by flood damage. An initial claim of $5,000 is available to assist you with immediate early recovery and up to $20,000 to recover costs you have paid to repair

Do you need your battery changed ?

Some people assume having a battery change in their watch is no big deal.

However, there are many things that we do here at R.W. Harrold Watchmaker that ensures your watch stays in top condition. For example, with every battery change we test the watches current consumption. This is read in Micro Amps. This test is very important  in establishing the health of your watch.

This reading tells us how much energy your watch is consuming from the battery. Readings within factory specifications will maintain the normal battery life expectancy. A higher then factory specification reading means the movement is consuming more energy from the battery then is specified therefore reducing the battery life. Instances where such a problem arises can be solved by a full service.

Only having the battery changed cannot guarantee it’s water resistancy.

The resealing process

Here at R.W. Harrold Watchmaker we offer seals and pressure testing for water resistant watches rated at  50, 100, 150, 200 meter resistancies(resistancy is rated on the case back of your watch). The resealing and pressure testing of your watch gurantees your watch is safe to swim in at the rated depth.

Seals that are replaced include, button seals, crown seals(some crowns contain internal seals where the whole crown needs replacing) and back case seals (other seals including glass seals may incure an extra charge). With these brand new seals in place we can then guarantee our pressure testing and that the watch is then water resistant to its rated water resistancy.
