History:

In 1884 a hoteliers licence was issued to Silvester Ryan to operate the Royal Exchange Hotel.

With 130 years of history within its walls, the RE is one of Australia’s most famous watering holes, and put Toowong on the map. The RE attracts a cosmopolitan mix who relate easily in a relaxed atmosphere or locals and students alike.

The RE Beergarden is famous as host to countless ‘end of exam’ celebrations (June, November). And if you arrive at the end of February each year be aware of the annual “RE Toga Party” which kicks off the Uni year.

Locals find it to be a great place for a sunny lunch or punt at the TAB, a dash on the pokies or just to take in a relaxing beer with mates.
